Abstract

This research aims to study the position of Egyptian writers on the invasion of
Kuwait on August 2, 1990, by analyzing their articles published in the Cairo
newspaper Al-Ahram, as one of the most prominent and influential Arab
newspapers. The research focused on the intellectual and political positions of writers
towards the crisis and revealing how They used journalistic writing as a platform to
express their opinions and positions, whether in the context of explicit rejection and
condemnation of the invasion, or in the context of searching for explanations and
motivations for the event, or calling for peaceful solutions and Arab-Arab dialogue.
Consequently, a collection of articles by prominent writers of the period, such as
Naguib Mahfouz, was selected. Youssef Idris, Salama Ahmed Salama and others, and
analyzing its content to reveal the characteristics of the political discourse, its nature
and its style in dealing with the issue, which varied between sharp condemnation of
the invasion as a violation of international laws and norms and a threat to Arab security, And between attempts to understand its causes and historical and political context, this contrast reflects the diversity of the intellectual and political
backgrounds of the writers and their role in nurturing public debate and shaping
collective awareness regarding the crisis.
